Polio in Pakistan and Somalia: engaging difficult to access communities

Pakistan, Somalia

Pakistan, Somalia

This multi-phased project presented qualitative data to guide polio activities and shape community for development (C4D) interventions related to health-seeking behaviour and vaccine uptake.  Literature reviews were conducted on the political, socio-economic and cultural context of Mudug and Galmudug in Puntland, and of Pashtun communities in The Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.  Intensive fieldwork was then conducted with nomadic pastoralists in Jariban District, Puntland on care-seeking behaviour, communication channels and veterinarian services in terms of being a trusted provider.
