Immunisation behaviours and practices

El Salvador

El Salvador
In July 2023, the Ministry of Health of El Salvador, with support from UNICEF and PAHO/WHO, launched an updated vaccination schedule aimed at providing equitable and free access to a wider range of vaccines. As part of a regional initiative focused on the MMR and HPV vaccines, Anthrologica partnered with Seraphim to conduct formative research in El Salvador. This rapid research explored the factors that influence whether children complete their vaccination schedules, as well as the key barriers at the household, community, and institutional levels. It also considered social determinants such as gender and ethnicity. To support the initiative, a series of personas and user journeys were co-created for UNICEF LACRO’s project with Common Thread. The findings were compiled into a report to guide programming efforts that promote and support vaccine uptake. The report also outlined opportunities for PAHO/WHO and UNICEF to provide continued assistance to the Ministry of Health in strengthening immunisation efforts.
