Malaysia
Anthrologica supported UNICEF Malaysia to examine the barriers to birth registration among children affected by migration, with attention to intersecting factors including marital status, age, gender and disability. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study generated evidence at individual, household, community, institutional and policy levels. In-depth qualitative data collection was complemented by a quantitative KAP survey to produce a robust and representative dataset. The research focused on diverse groups including documented refugees and asylum seekers, undocumented asylum seekers, and both documented and undocumented economic migrants. Findings and recommendations from the study informed UNICEF’s evidence-based advocacy and shaped both short- and longer-term policies to promote universal birth registration and support social and behaviour change in Malaysia.
