During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, Anthrologica was contracted by WHO Headquarters to document how behavioural and social science evidence had been used to adapt, localise and scale initiatives for COVID-19 outbreak control. Anthrologica conducted a global literature review and expert consultations to identify 113 relevant initiatives, from which 15 high-quality examples were selected in collaboration with WHO focal points and developed into in-depth case studies. The final collection showcases diverse applications of behavioural and social science evidence in health emergencies and highlights how research has been translated into practical public health programming to inform Member States and emergency response partners.
