MYANMAR
Anthrologica was commissioned by UNICEF Myanmar to conduct a Rapid Qualitative Assessment (RQA) to generate evidence on community perceptions and inform emergency response and programming during the 2024–2025 outbreak of Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD)/cholera. Amid an existing humanitarian crisis fuelled by widespread conflict, mass displacement and earthquake-related damage to WASH infrastructure, the RQA provided rapid, actionable insights into community knowledge, risk perception, preventive behaviours, and care-seeking. Working with local partner Mekong Economics (MKE), Anthrologica designed the methodological framework, adapted tools, and delivered remote cascade training to local field teams in Yangon Region and Chin, Rakhine and Shan States. Findings informed response and programming across four key areas - RCCE, WASH, health, and inter-pillar coordination -supporting a more community-centred and behaviourally driven approach to cholera prevention and control. Alongside the assessment, Anthrologica developed a comprehensive RQA training package for UNICEF and partners to strengthen national capacity to implement future RQAs in other emergencies and public health contexts.
