At the request of the READY Initiative and with funding from USAID/Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Anthrologica developed a policy-oriented paper examining the role of local organisations in infectious disease outbreak preparedness and response in humanitarian settings. Drawing on consultations with global humanitarian and outbreak actors, and with local and national organisations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen, alongside an extensive desk review, the paper highlighted local actors’ perspectives, needs, and priorities. It presented actionable recommendations to strengthen locally led outbreak response, foster equitable collaboration, and advance meaningful localisation in humanitarian health emergencies.
